The following additions were made to the Preamble by the Constitution (42nd) Amendment Act, 1976: Socialist, Secular, Integrity.

The Preamble of the constitution lays down the objectives of the Constitution which forms the basic structure of the constitution.

The Preamble can be amended under the provisions of the Article 368 of the Constitution.

The Preamble declares that the date of adoption of the Constitution is 26th January, 1950
